Setting up XAMPP Mercury Mail Server to work with Thunderbird

  • From XAMPP start the Mercury server and click ADMIN
  • Click on Configuration at the top of the page and select ‘Manage Local Users’
  • Now type in the details of the email address you want to create
  • Now setup this account in Thunderbird

    I followed all steps of settings but Thunderbird does not send mails to, for example xxx@gmail.com, out. Please help to fix the problem. Thank you.

      If you’re setting up thunderbird to work with localhost, for example a website you’re developing on the a test server (not live on the internet) , you need to set up emails to use on your website (on your test server). e.g. myTest1Email@localhost.com

      You won’t be able to use gmail.com type emails on the test server as far as I’m aware (or at least I don’t).
